The Golden Compass - Lyra Belacqua ( Dakota Blue Richards ) is an orphan living at Jordan College in the Oxford of an alternate universe and to save the life of her friend, she has to travel to the far north. And a magical compass of gold, the Alethiometer, that will answer any question if one is skilled enough to read it, will guide her through her adventure.

In this first book of the Dark Materials, Lyra Belacqua is learning how to use the Alethiometer, a golden compass with symbols on it. Each symbol represents something and the reader has to interpret it in the correct way.

Looks like in our world there are more than a few left than in Lyras world. If you ever decide to go on a similar adventure, you can get one for yourself too..

The only bad thing is.. This versions are only available starting in May 2008. Can offer you 2 sites one from US the other from Germany to buy it from.

So you better wait, before you start your adventures. I would recommend - you get first the alethiometer, then rescue your friends in the north..
